In this activity, students explore what their peers like to do at lunch time. They are involved in all stages of the statistical enquiry cycle, from posing the investigative question, through planning for and collecting data, to analysis and answering the investigative question.聽

This activity explores the following key ideas:

  • Explore summary (and comparison) situations聽
  • Plan how to collect primary data
  • Create and describe data visualisations for summary (and comparison) investigations, for example using a frequency table, bar graph, dot plot
  • Answering investigative questions

In this activity students will investigate the ways they get to school and the time it takes to get there. They are involved in all stages of the statistical enquiry cycle, from posing the investigative question, through planning for and collecting data, to analysis and answering the investigative question.聽

This activity explores the following key ideas:

  • Explore summary and comparison situations with discrete numerical data
  • Plan how to collect primary data
  • Create and describe data visualisations for summary and comparison investigations, for example frequency table, bar graph

In this activity students explore how many skips they can do in 30 seconds. They are involved in all stages of the statistical enquiry cycle, from posing the investigative question , through planning for and collecting data, to analysis and answering the investigative question.聽

This activity explores the following key ideas:

  • Collecting data on a numerical variable, and, if needed, rounding to an appropriate unit or part of a unit, based on the context (e.g. How many skips can we do in 30 seconds? How long does it take us to run 1000 m?)
  • Creating dot-plot data visualisations
  • Distinguishing between when to use a particular value or the frequency for a given value when answering analysis questions about dot plots (e.g. How many pets does the person with the most pets have? What鈥檚 the most common number of pets that anyone has?)
